I'm Running!15.5.06
Like a New York pedestrian trying to dodge a line of crazy shoppers at a Macy's sale. I'm running again, this time seriously. Many of my readers from my Keeper Skool blog know that I have just recovered from ACL surgery, and through many months of excrutiating rehabilitation I am finally in a position to start running seriously which is fantastic. Liz and I took a serious investment to our health the other week and bought our very first treadmill! Over the past week I have been waking up nice and early and have begun my running program back to the levels of fitness I enjoyed last year. Following is my program and what I want to achieve over the following 4 weeks:

I've blogged about running on many occasions and a great resource for anyone trying to get fit is none other than the running "blogfather" Mark. Check out A Passion For Running for some great information about running methods and tips here.

I'm Running!

  • Start Slow: This week has seen my focus around trying to lose some fat. There is just no better way to achieve fat loss than running at about 60% of your maximum heart rate. Therefore, I focused on running between 7-9 km/h with daily increasing increments in time spent running.
  • Air & Fat: Fat just does not like that nasty O2. Actually the reason for me running slow is the fact that running at sub maximal intensities can help you burn fat, when you run anaerobically (without the presence of oxygen) it has a differing effect on your metabolism.
  • Setting Goals: Over the next 4 weeks my goal is to work up my running time so that I can reach over an hour in the morning, I'm already up to 18 or so minutes in my first week.
I've blogged about running on many occasions and a great resource for anyone trying to get fit is none other than the running "blogfather" Mark. Check out A Passion For Running for some great information about running methods and tips here.
